This is the story of two female cyclists and their friendship and rivalry from age 19 to the present day Olympics. It's the story of how two unlikely rivals became friends of sorts as they competed for everything in their lives. The story starts today - just months before the 2012 Olympics, but as the cyclists move through their challenges (one has a daughter battling leukemia) we see what put them where they are today - on the path for GOLD.I ended up liking this book a lot. Kate and Zoe are Yin and Yang - all that is good and all that is bad. What drives them to these levels? Their motivation and their paths so different. Yet somehow in it all despite major things going down between them, they continue on the friendship journey. And when it comes time to lay everything on the line - we see the sparkling of gold that doesn't come from a medal.The longer the story went on, the more drawn in I was to the story and characters. The initial impressions of the characters are spot on, but somehow seeing into their pasts twists and changes your heart when you think of them. The tension of the truth barrels down the track as one of the characters looks to all that she is and can she see beyond herself as a cyclist? Great sports read, but also a story for anyone who loves female friendship tales.
